Purpose


Recognizing the importance of creating an accessible and barrier-free society, the Taiwan Tourism Bureau has organized the “International Conference of Accessible Tourism Taiwan 2018” to encourage social participation opportunities for the elderly, people with disabilities and their caregivers. Distinguished speakers, both domestic and from abroad, have been invited to share their knowledge and experience with accessible tourism and the practical needs of users. The "Universal Design Contest of National Scenic Areas" and the " Photo Collection of Senior Traveling” exhibition creates a space for public-private dialogues, bringing together leading academics, researchers, industries and the general public, regardless of physical or mental disabilities, gender, or age, to promote the development of an accessible, barrier-free and friendly environment in Taiwan.

Ms. Sia Siew Chin, President of Asia Pacific Network on Accessible Tourism

Ms. Sia Siew Chin, from Malaysia, is the current President of the Asia Pacific Network on Accessible Tourism (APNAT) and was born with muscular dystrophy. She established the famous Beautiful Gate Foundation for the Disabled in Malaysia. The foundation has opened many Beautiful Gate Centers across the country, including centers in Petaling, Kepong, Klang, Puchong, Seremban, Malacca, Sitiawan and Kampar. She helped establish many services and opportunities for people with disabilities through Beautiful Gate including an Artists Group, Recycling Workshop, Employment Network Service, and more. She has also served as a member of Petaling Jaya City Council in Malaysia for many years. Sia Siew Chin has worked against all odds through love and perseverance to help the disadvantaged. She was awarded one of the Top 10 Outstanding Young Malaysians in 2000 and was awarded the esteemed title of Ahli Mahkota Wilayah (AMW) by the highest head of state in Malaysia in 2008. Sia Siew Chin, her family and Malaysian friends with disabilities have visited Taiwan many times. Sia Siew Chin will share her experience with the development of accessible tourism in the Asia Pacific region, as well as her observations on Taiwan’s accessible tourism environment, and help establish greater connections between the accessible tourism organizations in Taiwan and abroad.

Universal Design for Tourism - User Needs and Practical Examples

 

Mr. Tang Feng-Cheng, President of Foundation of Universal Design Education

Mr. Tang Feng-Cheng is an avid promoter of accessible design education in Taiwan, and is the current president of the Foundation of Universal Design Education.  He has helped promote universal design education programs, serving as a consultant on disability rights and accessibility in many local governments and offices, including the Ministry of the Interior, Ministry of Communications, Taipei, New Taipei City, and Taichung City, as well as a committee member for the Ministry of Economics. In this seminar, he will analyze the needs of users of accessible tourism based on the concepts and principles of universal design. He will highlight the design trends of universal design (UD) in foreign countries through specific cases of various service improvement projects. Mr. Tang Feng-Cheng will also share his thoughts on the “Universal Accessible Design Competition” as one of the competition judges, and his expectations for the future of Taiwan’s accessible tourism.

    Accessibility services are provided at every MRT station in Taipei (guides for the visually impaired can be reserved in advance).Take the Bannan line to Zhongxiao Xinsheng station, take Exit 2 (exit has accessible elevator), and head towards Section 1, Xinsheng South Road. Enter through Taipei Tech through the Xinsheng South Road entrance, go straight for one minute, and the conference location will be on your left

  • Accessible Taxi:
    Taipei accessible taxis are by meter. There are currently four car models including Volkswagen Caddy, Volkswagen T6, Luxgen V7, and Ford Turneo.     Take the Blue Line (Bannan Line) or the Orange Line (Zhonghe Xinlu Line) to Zhongxiao Xinsheng Station. Take Exit 4 to National Taipei University of Technology.

[Sun Yatsen Freeway - Highway 1] at the Jianguo North Road / Songjiang Road Interchange (stay left to take Jianguo North Road Elevated Bridge), take the Zhongxiao East Road Exit (turn right on Zhongxiao East Road), you will reach the National Taipei University of Technology in 100 meters.
